Kerala tourist attraction Historic Places

There are many tourist places which are historically significant and Kerala Tour Packages are arranged to this locations. Some of the historic tourist destinations are as follows:

Bolgatty Palace : is located in Kochi city. This was built by the Dutch who came to Kerala for spice trade in 18th century. This Palace is now a heritage hotel. It is possible for tourists to visit this palace as well as to stay in this palace. This Palace also faces the backwaters and it is possible to enjoy the view of the backwaters from this palace.

Dutch Palace : This Palace is located in Mattanchery in Kochi. This palace was rebuilt by Dutch in the 18th century although it was originally built by the Portuguese. Now it is a tourist destination in Kochi.

Tripunithura Hill Palace: It was from this place that the Kochi Rajas carried out their administration. It is now converted into a museum. Many ancient objects that were used by the Rajas of Kochi can been seen here.

Jewish Synagogue : This Synagogue is situated in Mattanchery in Kochi.  This was built by Jewish people who came to Kerala in the 16th century.  The Synagogue remains open on all days except on Saturdays, Sundays and Jewish holidays.

Edakkal Caves : These caves are located in Wayanad district of Kerala. This is one of the oldest historic remains in Kerala dating back to prehistoric times. The walls of these caves have carvings that were done in prehistoric times.

Kappad Beach : This beach is the place where Vasco Da Gama first landed. This located in Kozhikode district of Kerala.

Cheraman Perumal Mosque  : This  mosque is believed to be the first mosque in India. It was built at the time of Cheraman Perumal who was the ruler at that time.

St. Francis Church : This church was built by the Portuguese in early 16th century. This church can be seen in Fort Kochi. This church is also the place where Vasco Da Gama was first buried. His remains were later taken back to Portugal.

Bekal Fort : This Fort is situated in Kasargod district and it  was built in 17th century. It is the largest Fort in Kerala and covers a very large area.

Cheraman Perumal Mosque  : This  mosque is believed to be the first mosque in India. It was built at the time of Cheraman Perumal who was the ruler at that time.
