About Kerala tourism

Kerala is a state situated in south India.  On the western side of Kerala is the Arabian Sea. On the eastern side the mountain ranges known as the Western Ghats. Even though Kerala is a small state it has one of the largest numbers of tourist arrivals. Tourists from different parts of India and from abroad visit the state. The natural beauty of Kerala landscape has always been a visual treat for tourists visiting this place.

There are 14 districts in Kerala and in all the districts there are beautiful places where tourists can spend their vacation. Kerala is predominantly an agricultural state. Most of the people depend on agriculture for their income. The major crops that are grown in Kerala are coconut, paddy, rubber, pepper, cardamom, tea, coffee, rubber and pineapple. Most of the inhabited land in Kerala is suitable for agriculture.

The state receives plenty of rain throughout the year. Due to the abundant rainfall the state remains evergreen throughout the year. The lush green country side and the large number of water bodies, mountains, rivers and lakes make Kerala an ideal destination for tourists.

The major attractions in Kerala are the backwaters which is several hundred kilometers long. Many houseboats operate in these backwaters. The next major attractions are the hill station. Then there are beautiful beaches. There are also many places of historic significance. Ayurveda, which is a traditional herbal treatment is widely practiced here and it is a major tourist attraction. The farms in Kerala are also becoming a new attraction in Kerala.

Kerala has three international airports. They are Cochin, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram. Kerala is well connected by road, railways and waterways.
